Our History
In 2008, we came together over a shared concern that today’s children are not connecting to the natural world ~ they’re not developing a sense of ‘place.’ Their structured lives keep them from exploring, and ultimately knowing, their surroundings. They are seduced to stay inside by the virtual world of video games and social networking sites. Their play is scheduled; their sports are organized.
Superior schooling ensures that they know the world, yet many are strangely unfamiliar with the ‘world’ in their backyards.
The same is true for parents. Once intimately tied to the places of childhood, we are now disconnected from the land … and from each other.
The Unplugged Learning Project is our response to this worrisome phenomenon. It is a grass-roots, community effort that will inspire fundamental change in the way we live. Join us in the movement to unplug. Watch our video and learn more.
